May 2026 Newsletter

Yes, the Merry Month of May is upon us. Pluck a few flowers and read on ----

Despite glitches and a bit of confusion, many of us gathered and gabbed at coffee and conversation, Taco Tuesday, Lunch-OUT-on-the-town, and of course, our Saturday potluck.  Food and Fellowship is quite an attractive combination.  Join us if you can at some of these gatherings.  Times and places are listed below.

You can now buy, at cost, a T-shirt with our logo emblazoned on the front.  Christopher designed the "rooted in community" tree for us.  Jacki figured out how to put it on a shirt.

In mid-April, Christine and Doug attended the quarterly Queer Roundtable in Coeur d'Alene hosted by North Idaho Pride Alliance.  Representatives of regional LGBTQ+ organizations shared about the issues and offerings of their groups.  In short, there are major issues confronting all groups.  For example, restrictive bathroom legislation passed by the Idaho Legislature and signed by the governor is disgusting, abhorrent, inhumane, and goes into effect July 1st.  Individuals must use the bathroom of the sex assigned at birth in public areas.  The first offense is a misdemeanor, and the second offense is a felony.  As of this writing, there is no clear strategy to counter this law. Expect lawsuits.

Taylor Michl, a gender expansive PhD candidate in Counseling Psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University, is conducting a study focused on transgender and gender expansive older adults’ retirement experiences. They need additional research participants.

Our third Friday zoom speaker series continues in May.  Guests from the Olive Branch Senior Living Project will engage with us on developing senior LGBTQ+ housing in the area.  The hour should be very interesting.

April speakers, Barb and Anne, continued their presentation on Demystifying Death.  It was a thought-provoking and informative session containing much useful information.  We are very grateful for their work in this area.  They offer a free series on the subject semi-annually in Spokane. We will post dates for the next public series.

The Spectrum Singers offer their spring concert on Saturday, May 30, at 7 pm.  The Singers have been offering beautiful evenings of song for several years now.  Come enjoy music from the rainbow!
