NOVEMBER 2026 NEWSLETTER
Our November Newsletter is being sent out early this time. If it reaches one person who is motivated to vote and was not going to, if it reaches one person who influences another person to vote, who was not going to, then it has been a success.
Our group tries to stay faithful to the mission of providing a social space that is safe for all seniors on the queer spectrum. We usually stay away from politics, but this is no ordinary time, no ordinary year. Our rights, our identities, and some would say, our existence, is threatened by the governing bodies of our nation. As the founder of the Proud Boys, a militant right-wing group, put it – “people on the right have no reason to be upset, the government is now doing our work for us”.
A speaker from the political wing of the Human Rights Campaign gave an excellent presentation about the upcoming election at our October zoom speaker session. You can find her data points in the email that was sent out a few days ago. The take home message is that we need to vote and engage with family and friends, encouraging them to vote. It is our right, a right that only has meaning if exercised.
Many people were on hand at the October potluck to thank Nancy and Dale for their support and perseverance. The cake was yumms too.
Word is that the last few Taco Tuesdays and Lunch on the Towns have been well attended, fun and engaging. Way to go Old Queer People.
The November potluck will be another don't miss affair - we will be celebrating Thanksgiving (turkeys provided) with the Spectrum Singers. Put noon, November 14, on your calendar. The Singers rehearse at about 11 am, and we can sit in on the practice. Last year was a special time, and the two groups thought it a good idea to make it a tradition.
Our Friday Zoom Speaker on November 20 will be Kristine Coons, Director of Diversity for Providence Health. It will be an interesting hour focused on her organization's efforts to be inclusive.
Expect to receive a survey from us. We want to find out what skills, time and space folks have available to contribute to the continuance of our group. Please give it some thought. Thank you.
