LGBTQ+ Seniors of the INW September 2025 Newsletter

Hey There Tribe!

Are you thinking about a warm getaway in the near future? Check out St Lucia. The island nation just revoked laws prohibiting same sex consensual sex. The prohibitions stem from colonial era laws that punished homosexual acts with up to ten years in prison. Though seldom enforced for several years, it's still a great idea to officially get the government out of the bedroom.

Despite the US Department of Energy proclaiming coal as the future of energy, the facts point to 2026 as the year renewable energy (wind, solar) will supply 90% of the world's new power. Renewables will be the largest source of electricity the same year, per an article in Fix the News.

Also, in Fix the News for you friends of furry critters, global fur trade is falling. In 2014 fur farms killed over 140 million animals. Last year that number was down to 20.5 million. Demand is collapsing. It is the greatest animal welfare victory of the 21st century.

Closer to home, check out the Spokane based Spectrum newsletter here. Kudos to the Spectrum folks for hanging in there and developing programing on a wide range of issues.

Speaking of kudos - Garland Pride in August was a well done event. We had a presence there for the first time. Thank you to Nancy for making sure we had space. Hannah, Christine, Rich and Jeffrey dedicated time and energy to staffing the booth.

Rich Davis spoke to us at the 3rd Friday zoom time. He provided an interesting commentary on living in the Mideast and Venezuela as an out gay man. Thank you, Rich.

Heads up everyone - our September Zoom Speaker is Dr. Gillig of Washington State University. She will be presenting the results of the recent LGBTQ+ survey for the state of Washington. This talk will be on September 12 - the SECOND Friday in September. There will be an opportunity to ask questions.

Our third Friday Zoom Speaker on October 17 is Carole Pertofsky. Carole speaks internationally to groups and organizations about developing well-being and living our best lives. It will be a fascinating hour.

Did you know that we are part of SAGEColab? SAGE is a national umbrella group that engages in advocacy and programing for LGBTQ+ elders. If anyone is interested in representing our group with SAGE and its partners via zoom calls, please contact Doug at admin@lgbtqseniorsoftheinlandnorthwest.com. It is rewarding to link with other people and groups who are like minded and on the same path.

The Steering Committee welcomes the return of Jackie and new member Rich. Thank you to all the members of the committee for donating their time and talent to build this group. The Committee is open to anyone who wishes to participate - please contact us at if you have questions, concerns, comments, praise. We need your input!
