Hello July! Happy 4th, Happy Birthday, if you were born in this hot month, like Raymond! Welcome to our new subscribers. See our July calendar of events on page 2.
Pride Month is being properly celebrated in the region - thank you to the many members who stepped up to make our presence felt in a few communities. If the math is correct, we have been a part of the Spokane Pride Weekend for five of our six years - the missing year was due to covid. Yea us!
We also had several members show up in Coeur d'Alene for the Pride Weekend there - it was much smaller than Spokane's celebration of course, but safe, fun and efficient.
We had a booth at the Bonners Ferry Pride celebration - a first-time event in the far north of Idaho. Whoever thought we would see African American drag queens (from Pocatello, Spokane and Post Falls) performing in downtown Bonners Ferry!
There is more! Sandpoint, Idaho will hold its Pride Celebration on July 12-13th. Doug and Ken will be there at our booth - other volunteers are welcome and encouraged. Libby, Montana is celebrating PRIDE on Saturday, July 13th. Anyone interested in representing us in Libby should let Doug know at dkb1049@gmail.com. Unbelievably, Eureka, Montana and Kellog, Idaho, and Creston, British Columbia are also holding Pride Weekends! It may be surprising to see so many communities bringing Pride to life, but really, it is inspiring to see the courage and joy on display as so many folks come out in support of inclusion, acceptance and love. Our strength is in our visibility.
Our strength is also in our voting - please make sure you are registered to vote in your community - and vote for the people on the ticket who support your rights. This may well be the most critical election of our lifetime.
Our monthly potluck will be on Saturday, July 13. Noon at UU Spokane - bring a dish to share, A main protein course will be provided by the group. Please join us if you can - and email Deena at dvromoff@comcast.net if you are coming so we know how many tables and chairs to set up. If you are new to us, don’t be shy! We would love to meet you in person.
July Events:
Taco Tuesday, July 2, 5:00 pm at the Drinkery, Garland District, a fun summer place to meet for drinks and eats with anyone who can make it.
Every Friday at 4 - 5 pm - zoom call social hour. Many folks our age don't particularly care for the zoom experience, but it is a good way for us to regularly touch base and share a bit about how our week went, as well as hear how others are doing. There is a facilitator for the hour. Let Nancy know if you do not have access to the code and would like to join us. Nancy usually sends out the zoom link on Wednesday.
Saturday, July 13 - noon potluck at UU Spokane 4340 W. Whistalks Way. Set up help at 11:30 RSVP dvromoff@comcast.net
