Welcome October

Boo

Boo who?

What are you crying about?

Hey Happy Halloween to all our cauldrons, klatches and covens. First frost is just around the corner, gardens are getting tidied up and, well, you get the point - Here is what we have going on with our group for the month:

CALENDAR OF EVENTS

October 1st - Taco Tuesday, 5 pm at Atilanos on 3rd Ave, Spokane, WA 99202.  It's become a tradition! Join us for a nice cheap dinner and social time. Note this is a new location.

October 2, Wednesday 4-5PM a facilitated political zoom, separate link being sent out. This election year has a lot riding on it - here is an opportunity to voice concerns, seek clarity and support, and develop informed choices.

October 12, Saturday potluck, noon at UU Spokane, 4340 W. Whistalks Way. Talk about tradition! We have been meeting monthly at UU for over six years (except covid months). Come join us and celebrate queer elder community. This month, we are excited to announce that we are partnering with Critical Care to offer FREE VACCINATIONS AT THE POTLUCK for COVID, Influenza, MPox, and RSV.  More information will be sent as soon with more potluck information. Vaccinating will begin at 11:00 - 1:30.

***People requesting RSV must have insurance of some kind and provide proof of coverage - i.e., Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, etc.  That vaccine is not free. This is a great way to protect yourself, say ouch, and have lunch and dessert with friends. C'mon out with us!

October 18, Friday 4 pm Zoom speaker meeting - trick or treat, stay tuned for more about the speaker.

October 24, Wednesday Lunch OUT on the Town at NOON.  TBD

October 31, Thursday, 4-5 zoom Steering Committee. Please feel free to join us by notifying Nancy via email. If you have ideas and/or suggestions, contact Nancy as well. Given the date, it may be a ghostly meeting.

Every Friday, 4-5 pm Zoom call. Come for as long or little as you can. It is a wonderful opportunity to have a brief time to say hello, hear how other people's week has gone, and share a bit about your own.

Our zoom speakers in September were Shelby and Chrystal from Spokane Pride. They talked to us about the History Project, which is part of their mission. Their organization would like to begin collecting stories of queer elders and organizations in the region. We expect to hear more about how this will take shape in the coming months. Please consider committing your story to video.

For those of you watching the polls and seeing your anxiety wax and wane, please bear in mind that polls are not that important, or even right. At the end of the day, the only thing that counts is your VOTE. If you need help in any way - getting to the booth, understanding your ballot, or whatever - let us know, and we will do what we can to assist.

Fondly Dearies,

Your Steering Committee
