Yep, it's June and time to show our colors. Please check out our booths at Coeur d’ Alene Pride in the Park and at Spokane Pride the following week.
AARP lobbyist, Lisa Anderson, spoke to us on our 3rd Friday Zoom this month. Her talk focused on social security issues, proposals for maintaining solvency for the funds, her assessment of the state of affairs, and the direction social security, medicare and medicaid are heading. One of the points she stressed was that if you are having difficulty navigating the system, your US representative or senators' offices are often of help. In addition, AARP support services are available to all seniors - you do not need to be an AARP member to communicate with them.
Our third Friday of the month zoom speakers this year have addressed a variety of topics important to many queer seniors. Two queer friendly therapists have presented on grieving and managing anxiety. A professor and lawyer from Gonzaga's Lincoln Law Center for LGBTQ issues talked about legal resources and paths that can be taken. Most recently, there was the talk about Social Security issues. If you can, tune in to these talks to learn about some of the topics being offered. If you have a resource or topic for us, please let us know through the website. There will not be a speaker in June.
Please note that our monthly potluck, usually held on the second Saturday at noon, will not be held this month. But you can come munch with us at our Pride booths.
Spectrum Singers will be offering two concerts, both in the Perry District, this month. Several of our seniors have participated in the choir. Currently, Christine is active with them.

David, a man living with Down Syndrome, passed away in May. David often came to our potlucks over the past few years with his friend, Jacob. Jacki, his caretaker, brought them both. Personally, I always looked at David as a gentle soul, but not really a part of the tribe - just someone who came along with others. But really, he was 62, and in a loving, meaningful relationship with another man. I was astonished to realize how blind I had been to his presence - to the wholeness of him. In hindsight, his presence was a gift to us. Part of that gift is knowing that queerness comes in all kinds of shapes and dimensions. He was a brother amongst us. Thank you, David, for being a part of our lives. This month's newsletter is dedicated to him. Doug
