July Newsletter and Upcoming Events

Updated: Jul 2

Hello Elder Denizens of the Rainbow - welcome to summer

And welcome to the approximately fifty new subscribers to our newsletter.

Let’s start off with some good news. We received a generous contribution anonymously. Thank you to the kind soul(s) for contributing to our group.

June was a busy month for many of us - we staffed booths at Coeur d'Alene Pride in the Park and Spokane Pride the following weekend. Both events were safe, lively, fun, and informative. The large turnout at these Pride events is reassuring that our voices matter, and that we are not alone. Thank you to Deena, Cam, Christine, Jeffrey, Rich, Doug, Joe, Gianni, Mae, Jim, Dave, Deb, Nancy, Dale, Hannah, Al, Ray and so many more who volunteered to set up, answer questions, clean up, march and generally be joyfully present. Also, kudos to Matthew at Spokane Pride for making sure we were near the beginning of the parade. Old folk and prolonged heat are not the best match.

There are other Pride celebrations coming up - Sandpoint in mid July, Nelson in British Columbia, Moscow and elsewhere. Contact us at admin@lgbtqseniorsoftheinlandnorthwest.com if you are willing and able to participate in any of these programs.

Please note that we are successfully working on making our website a more vibrant, effective tool for communicating with the community. If you have not already checked the site out recently, take a look at what we are doing at admin@lgbtqseniorsoftheinlandnorthwest.com. Hopefully, our site will become a primary source of information regarding resources and events in the coming months.

The third Friday of the month zoom call is usually dedicated to having a speaker on topics of interest to the group. In the next few months, we will feature a speaker on senior housing in Washington State, a queer ex pat on living outside the US, and another talk from a former Stanford University administrator on creating satisfaction and well-being. If you have topics that you would like to offer, please contact us through the website.

July is shaping up to be a bit more tame. We will be back to our regular schedule, which is listed below:

We try our best to get the newsletter out by the end of the previous month

Happy Fourth of July Everybody - maybe this is a good month to renew our awareness of the meaning of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Our liberties are again at risk, and we cannot take our freedoms for granted. Patrick Henry wrote that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance. That is an antique way of saying "stay woke".
