Do April showers really bring May flowers?
An apology to the March birthday leprechauns - they were really born in April. And if we missed saying Happy Birthday to anyone born in March, blame it on those leprechauns.
April schedule:
- zoom chat every Friday at 4
- Taco Tuesday at Uprise Brewery, 5 pm on April 2nd
- Potluck gathering at UU Spokane, noon, Saturday, April 13 set up at 11:30. Dr. Gillig will be there and will talk about the LGBTQ Health Survey coming out in June. The group will provide ham, plan to bring a side dish.
- Matthew Danielson of Spokane Pride is our zoom speaker April 19, 4 pm. He will be sharing about Pride events in June, and he will also be sharing his vision of how we as elders can talk about our history at the Pride gathering in the park on June 8.
- Lunch on the town Wednesday, April 24 at noon - all are welcome. Stay tuned for announcement of the place, or contact Hannah at rosebudmd@hotmail.com
- zoom Steering Committee Meeting, Thursday, April 25, 4 pm.
News of Note:
- Dan, Mae and Jacki have stepped down from our Steering Committee for personal reasons. On behalf of the group, thank you each for giving so generously of your time and talent to our seniors group. Your contributions live on! We all wish you healing and strength. As able, all three members hope to attend our future activities.
- Several members toured the new Spectrum Center offices on Monroe Street. The Spectrum Center invites us to participate with them in ways that make sense as they create queer space for all dimensions of our tribe. Let the Steering Committee know if you have ideas that you are able to work on.
- Hannah reports that she and Mike had a nice time at Karma Restaurant for Lunch on the Town in February. Sorry to say, no one else showed up - if we are going to have these kinds of offerings, please show up if you say you are going to come, or let Hannah know you cannot make it. It is frustrating to organize a lunch, make reservations, and then have no one attend.
Meanwhile, the March potluck was green and sweet. Green because so many folks came in their best St. Patrick’s Day garb. And sweet because everyone had such a great time visiting with each other.
- June Pride in Spokane planning is heating up - we are committing to walking in the parade and getting wheelchairs for those who would like to use them. We will also have a booth for the day. Volunteers are very much needed to be present to engage with the public about our group. Please let us know if you can participate in any way. Contact Hannah or any member of the Steering Committee.
- Doug and Ken will be taking on the Coeur d'Alene Pride in the Park presence for our group - volunteers to assist there are also greatly appreciated. The event will be in early June.
- the Steering Committee met on March 20 in person for a one-day retreat. During that time, we affirmed that we are primarily a social group, committed to providing safe spaces for queer seniors to get together regularly. We will remain guests of UU at this time. UU graciously allows us to use their building space, zoom account, and business services to operate. We also have developed a set of protocols for managing our funds and decision-making process. The team discussed ways to better let the public know about our existence in order to grow our numbers. We reaffirmed that we would abide by the UU policy of having NO weapons at our UU gatherings.
