August Newsletter

August days, summer breaks, garden busyness, and oh so hot!

Hello everyone - summer is in full swing, and we hope you are having a hydrated enjoyable time. Happy birthdays to the Leo's and Virgo's amongst us: Val, Jock, and Christopher.

Taco Tuesday is August 1st at 5:00 in the afternoon at the Garland Drinkery 828 W. Garland, Spokane. A few of us get together in an lgbtq+ friendly atmosphere to share a meal, maybe a beer, and definitely some fellowship. Tacos by Angie’s Taco truck.

Our monthly potluck is on Saturday, August 12 at noon - UU Spokane campus on 4340 W Whistalks Way, Spokane. Come eat and laugh with your tribe! Set up at 11:30. Bring a dish to share. Please RSVP to NancyTavery@comcast.net if you are coming so we set up enough tables and chairs.

We continue to zoom every Friday at 4. Contact Nancy at nancytavery@comcast.net if you would like to join us and are not receiving the weekly email with the link. As a reminder, the hour that we spend together includes a brief sharing from everyone about how their week has gone, short announcements and news affecting the group and some general sharing. Zooming seems to be an acquired skill that many of us were forced to use during covid. Remarkably, our group has continued to meet every week for an hour for over 3 1/2 years. There is an average of 14-15 people a week that touch base. We welcome your presence.

News for our whole group: we are now partnering with SAGE, a nationwide elder lgbtq+ organization that offers all of us the opportunity to explore resources, gather information and join in common cause with our rainbow community across the country. Check out their website at www.sageusa.org. There is no cost to the group or individuals.

We are hoping to have a speaker of interest for our August 18 zoom social hour - stay tuned..

If you have not checked out our website yet please do - our site is www.LGBTQseniorsoftheinlandnorthwest.com Let us know your thoughts about the site.

On a disturbing note, one of our members, Deb, was viciously attacked a few weeks ago while in her car early one morning. Also, her car was stolen. The attacker was caught. Deb is healing and understandably upset. Several of us made a donation to her to assist with loss of income. She has communicated her deep gratitude for the support. Please, take precautions and be alert when you are out and about, particularly when you are alone.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, stay connected! Cheers from your Steering Committee
